Kristin Burnthorne is a pianist and educator from Flower Mound, Texas. She has been teaching for almost four years and playing for sixteen. Kristin enjoys researching new piano pedagogy methods, accompanying, and is dedicated to motivating students of all ages to explore their passion and creativity for music.
Born in Russia and being of Romani heritage, Kristin is particularly interested in world music and learning about the musical traditions of different cultures. Through her personality and care for each student, child or adult, she is ready to help pianists of all ages and backgrounds chase their musical dreams.
From a young age, she started competing and performing at her childhood teacher’s studio. After being given an opportunity to substitute, she became interested in teaching and the joy it instilled in her and her students. Kristin recently graduated from Texas Woman’s University summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s in Music Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy and a minor in Entrepreneurship. During college, she spent time as the accompanist for voice and instrumental students, in addition to the TWU Chamber Orchestra. Graduating in 2024, Kristin received performance awards such as the Isabel Scionti Piano Scholarship from her fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota, and was selected to perform in the TWU Honors Recital. Kristin has taught private lessons, master classes, group piano, and is excited to broaden her teaching experience at the Centre for Musical Minds.
Kristin is a member of the National Music Teachers Association. As an educator, Kristin is committed to making her students feel heard and comfortable with a tailor-made approach to their needs and goals. One of her core teaching philosophies is that everyone has the ability to make music, which can be cultivated through support, excitement, and knowledge of diverse learning approaches. In addition to teaching, Kristin enjoys playing viola, organ, and guitar.
